In the footsteps of the adventures of the Good Soldier, Švejk is the international cycle route no. 5880 (green) in the northeast of Slovakia. The route continues to the town of Medzilaborce and through the village of Koškovce to the railway station in the Humenné town. At the train station is located a statue of the Good Soldier Švejk. The cycle route copies the railway line through which the front troops traveled during the First World War. According to the world-famous novel by Jaroslav Hašek, this legendary character Švejk traveled there as well.On the way through the town of Medzilaborce, you have the opportunity to see the small open-air museum or take a tour of the museum, which is dedicated to the king of pop art, Andy Warhol. You can also admire the ruins of the Monastir in the village of Krásný Brod, which is also called the "Ruthenian Devín". In the town of Humenné, you can visit the Renaissance manor house and the open-air museum.
This area of northeastern Slovakia was strongly influenced by war events in the past. These are commemorated by several cemeteries, e.g. in Sukov, Čertižné, Výrava, Kalinov, Svetlice, Zbojné, but also Medzilaborce. You can reach them by taking a bike path that is 52 km long and is suitable for more persistent cyclists.
